What is Equifax?
Equifax is a credit information company that stores and scores consumer data and transactions, such as loans, to provide an accurate credit score. This credit score tracks reliability and serves as a tool that many companies use to evaluate the extent to which a consumer may recieve a loan or make a large financed purchase.

What are the social implications of the Equifax data breach?
The Equifax data breach put many businesses and individuals at risk of financial disaster. Different types of confidential data including social security numbers, credit card information, birth dates and the like leaked and put the targeted individuals at risk of financial devastation. Such a major data breach also had to have weakened the hacked company's reputation of security and reliability in the eyes and mouths of society.

Whose data was hacked and how did it affect the individual family?
Hundreds of thousands of individuals from numerous countries including the United States, Canada and England were affected by the 2017 Equifax data breach, allowing the hackers to view their sensitive documents, drivers liscence numbers and other confidential pieces of data. Any family could have been hurt by the data breach without knowing it for sure, resulting in problems when making large purchases.

How do you know if your data was breached?
To identify if your data has been breached, you must monitor your credit statements and may log onto the Equifax website and enter the last 6 digits of your social security number and your last name to recieve your status. Your credit score may also portray your the affect of a data breach as well, as it may drop significantly as a result of fraud.

What kind of recource might one have with Equifax?
Equifax offers one year of free credit monitoring or $125 of cash compensation for the individuals who were affected.
